Hi

I just installed a new greenhouse in my garden. I have been looking forward to getting one after saving up for a long time.

We were getting the house re-wired so I saw my chance and got the Electricans to run a power cable under the greenhouse foundations before the foundations went in.

My question is where do the plug sockets go?

I don't think ground level would be a good idea because of watering (Even though they will be external grade plug sockets) The greenhouse is a green aluminium type (Rhino 8x16) but how do the plug sockets attach to the Aluminium frame??

Hi Galileo

When I had electricty installed I had the same problem. So, we removed the triangular piece of glass above the door, replaced it with wood and fixed the socket there. Works perfectly and keeps the socket out of the way of water etc.

The socket is also one of those with a snap over cover so no moisture can get in when it's not in use.

We did the same as Chantal and it has worked well for many years. Can I just suggest that, as well as getting sockets with snap-on covers, you also have each one with a on-off switch? It will save you having to pull out the plugs out when you want to turn something off.

I made a one foot square two-legged wooden "noticeboard" with 3/4" exterior grade plywood and 2"x3" timber.

The legs were screwed to the edge of the aluminium staging frame, (which is itself bolted to the frame) and also to the sub-base for the house, which is sleepers.

Whole thing triple painted with black sadolin before fitting in house.

I will get the Electricans to bring some external grade plywood and external grade plug sockets with on/off switches when they come to install next week.
