Help! Its one week away until our annual village horticultural show and my greenhouse tomatoes (moneymaker) are still green! I suppose its too late now for them to ripen in time for the show bench? Has anyone got any miracle ideas?
Thanks
Helen

As I presume you will want to show them with fresh green stalks I imagine you won't want to remove them from the plants. Last week-end I picked a few underripe tomatoes, put them on a tray of newspaper and moved them around the garden to follow the sun and catch a full day of 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.sunshine. They ripened very quickly in 24 hours.
I don't know whether wrapping specific plants (or specific bunches) around with newspaper overnight would help retain a little heat and help your tomatoes ripen. What we all need, of course, is lots of sunshine, and I don't think we're going to get it!

I've read that placing lots of bananas or banana skins close to tomatoes helps the ripening process. Maybe you should move your fruit bowl into the greenhouse?

Avocados are supposed to work as well.
