they arrived yesterday with Eglu - safely installed in less than 20minutes. We clipped their wings and handled them before putting them in the run. We've found a friendly local supplier of food, straw and grit etc.
I love them, I can't wait to get home tonight to go and say hello to the girls!!
I love that they poo lots, the slugs eat the poo and then first thing this morning the chooks ate the slugs.
The cats ran at the run when they first saw them but are more relaxed and less predatory around it now - a few pecks will be enough to sort them I guess

Dear Franksmum, sounds as if you are going to enjoy there company.
And wait until you get your first egg.

Sounds lovely - don't worry about the cats - the chooks will soon sort them out.
Go easy on the slugs though - as slugs can carry gapeworm eggs, which turn into horrible gapeworms which will block the hens' trachea.
I'd just stick to pellets, fresh water and greens, etc.

Our chicken won't touch a slug with a barge pole ! Woul be handy if they would dispose of a few though

Crikey was this really a year ago?
We lost one of our chooks to an injury back in early October (cause unknown but feral cat was chief suspect) so had just the two gingernuts over the winter.
For our second wedding anniversary the husband bought me a Black Rock (Judith) and a White Star (Millie) - it was a laugh (not) introducing them to the feisty and well established gingers but we got there in the end and now the four of them are inseperable
I still love my girls and it still gives me a thrill collecting the eggs every night!
PS the lawn has never looked so green and lush, chicken poo is a wonderful thing!

Dear Franksmum, glad you are still enjoying your hens, and the added bonus of the eggs is good.
