sweetcorn pollinating
Moderators: KG Steve, Chantal, Tigger, peter
My sweetcorn have got the tassels on the top ready but not the cobs. I thought thw cobs would have had to have the green bits poking out the top to be pollinated by the time the tassels at the top are formed. There are only a few cobs out of 18 plants and they are only 3 inches or so in length. I've not had this happen before. They are not tall plants yet either only about 18 inches.

Still having problems with these?
I've had uneven development like this before but there are usually one or two plants with feathery tops when the late developing cobs develop. I'm not sure it matters which plant they get pollinated by.

Its really wierd the plants were all from the same packet but half have reddish folige and flower at the top, and the others pale green, I dont know if the cobs are going to turn out coloured on the red ones. There are a few cobs developing but they are no more than three inches long. Its just been so cold and wet, the beans i planted amongst them are pathetic too. But thanks for your reply I will see what happens could be we havwe a heatwave in september but I doubt it!
