Great picture. beautiful moth. Good to know that there are still such sights around despite the various toxic chemicals in the air and the destruction of habitats.

Hi PJ,
Regret to inform you but that is not a Swallowtail Butterfly. Not sure what it is but have checked on Google and the markings are wrong and it is really not the right shape. I have seen one Swallowtail here only in the last 30 odd years.

Hi DD, C, and MV,

They are really beautiful aren't they. It was hiding under a leaf, and was only flushed out because I was hosing some plants in tubs. July and August is the time to see them, and the larvae feed on Sloe and Hawthorn bushes. I went for a walk along the rough ground behind the beach yesterday, and it was teeming with Burnet Moths, Cabbage Whites, Bumble Bees, and Soldier Beetles. Really nice to see :)

Hi John Boy You can borrow my new glasses if you like. They are what my Optician calls my cooking glasses (so I can read recipe books)and I can use them for reading the computer too. Which helps. :)

Hi Catherine,
I am awaiting a new pair of spec's this week and there is a considerable difference in the new lenses but as you see when I goof I really goof and make absolutely no excuses and it is nothing to do with poor sight. More like crass stupidity!
