As I mentioned some time ago, I was given three Light Sussex hens and until recently, as I couldn't tell them apart, they were known as the Three Stooges. Now they all look different as they have varying numbers of feathers on their rump, dependent upon how fast they can run away from Rocky.

So, we've decided to name them and having discarded a good many "collections" of names (eg Madonna, Shakira & Kylie), have decided terrible puns is the way to go.

We now have Yoko and Shelley, but need a third name. Sheryl (Crow) has been considered but it's not of the same calibre as the first two. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Nesta

Faith, Hope, & Charity. [our older readers will recall this was the names given to three Gloster Gladiator planes defending Malta during WW2.]

Assuming the theme is on eggs rather than chicken........ Coddled. Scramble. Florentine. Mrs Whippy (closely related to that well known ice cream maker).

Don't think I can beat Nesta.

There are also two other good Welsh variants: Nest and Annest

Theres the good old Milton Bryan name, Layah.

Thanks guys, keep them coming. I did come up with Nesta but was howled down with "that's not a name, you made that up", is it Welsh?

I quite like Leia though, that has a nice ring to it.

Yoko, Shelley and Leia, what do you think?

You certainly didn't "make up" Nesta. Nesta, Nest and Annest are all Welsh versions of Agnes.

If you spoke as posh as they no doubt do in Milton Bryan, I suppose you could call her Egnes

No Goldilox, I would NEVER eat my birds. They lay their eggs until retirement and then live happily until the end of their natural life. I could no more eat Rosie Cat.

I keep chickens as pets; I don't even eat many eggs.
