My OH has an accident on the plot

On Thursday evening we were doing some last minute jobs at the plot when my OH slipped on some sloping wet grass and hit the left side of his ribs on the bench we have there. It really winded him but he said he was ok. We had our granddaughter for a long weekend and we both tried to persuade him to go to the hospital.

By 9pm he decided it would be better for him to go to the hospital as he was feeling really rough.

I took him to the local hospital which doesnt have an accident and emergency and after about an hour and a half because he had blood in his urine they passed us on the the main hospital which is ten miles from us. I drove him there and finally left early on Friday morning about 1.30 ish. Hardly slept at all. Anyway he had a scan at 3pm and I am glad to say that it was clear and he has just bruised his spleen. He has to take it easy, as if,

Today he actually went to bed this afternoon because his ribs are very painful and it hurts to breath. I am so glad that he will recover though it may take a little time.

He feels down because he was only just getting better from his knee operation and now he has done this.

The thing is that the doctor said that it was a good job he went to hospital to get checked out because if his spleen had torn or maybe his ribs had fractured he would have bled internally and it would have been very difficult to save him.

This weekend the plot has been neglected but tomorrow I will be back to work with a vengance.

Hi Catherine,

Glad to hear that the OH is getting better. Don't over do it on the plot, or you'll be joining him on sick leave.

Thanks PJ On Friday I worked there all day till I heard that his scans were clear. It was the only place I could switch off from the worry. But I paid for it on Friday night and ended up in bed at 8.30 completely shattered. So tomorrow I will behave myself, thats if it is a dry day. Otherwise it is painting the dining room.

Dear Catherine, glad everything has turned out as well as it has. Sounds as if you both need to take it a little easier.
Although thats not as easy as it sounds at this time of the year i know.

Hope your dearest recovers with all possible haste.

Do hope your husband feels better soon. These accidents are so easy to happen and can be very stressful to deal with.

Dear Catherine, sending speedy get well wishes to your OH, and don't work too hard yourself either! My father did a similar thing recently and refused to wait at the hospital. Thankfully he got better, but it took a few good weeks. If he ever does anything like that again, I will take him to the hospital and restrain him in the waiting room!!

Thank you for your kind wishes. My OH has gone into work today despite spending all yesterday afternoon in bed, which is unheard of. So he got up this morning and filled himself with Neurofen and went to work. :x I have just rung him to check and he says he is okay. Then he groaned he says it is hard to breath properly. He is very stubborn. Well nearly as stubborn as me. I think it will take quite a time to settle. I came off my mountain bike a few years ago over the handle bars, bashed myself in the ribs with the handlebars and banged my head on the tarmac and ended up being airlifted to Preston Royal. I fractured my left forearm and still 6 weeks later insisted we took our bikes on holiday only to find I could not pull the brake on with my left hand just before a busy main road  and had to give in that it would be better to walk than cycle. And its raining today, but I am going to the plot to plant some seeds as I dont feel like painting.
