Gooseberries

Has anybody else had a bumper harvest of Gooseberries? I have one bush on my allotment, this bush was almost completely destroyed by fire when my shed was burnt down. I pruned it right back, it recoverd and I have just picked 10lb 2oz of fruit from it. Is this a record? Has it something to do with the fire?
Regards, Essexboy.

Well they do love potash!
I used to weigh everything but haven't done for a while. My main Whitesmith Gooseberry is almost flat on the floor with a huge crop that I am sure would be a lot more than 10lbs - I think we've had 6 pickings so far and you can't tell where we've been.

I yesterday picked good yields from my two gooseberry bushes and there are still some left ripening. The third bush has not borne a single fruit this year and I've no idea why it didn't flower. It was badly attacked by gooseberry sawfly last year. Don't know whether that has any bearing on it.

I have five bushes which are heavily laden and two, which I pruned hard last year, with no fruit at all
