Hi folks,

Got a dilemma. I'm lucky to have a 6 by 8 greenhouse to dedicate to cucumbers and melons. I have 8 cucumber plants down one side and 7 melon plants down the other. In between there is a 3 x 2ft gap begging to be planted with something. The general advice seems to be that aubergines enjoy same humid environment as cucumbers and melons but I planted some in the same space last year when I had tomatoes and cucumbers down either side and they utterly failed to grow. I think they were shaded by the other plants. Has anyone got any other suggestions?

I have an 8x6 greenhouse and have 3 growbags down either side (18 tomatoes) and one at the bottom (3 cucumbers), I cant see how you could plant down the middle and still be able to get in without trampling on things!, i just have a small chair and go in there with a cup of tea! It heats up so quickly i need to open the door and vent every day too. Sorry thats not really helping re aubergines!

Sorry, didn't make myself clear (nothing new there then!) I have a U-shaped raised bed with a path down the middle, cucumbers one side and melons on the other, it's the bottom of the U that is empty and begging for plants. I too have a chair to sit and drink tea

I can't remember where, but I read somewhere that aubergines do NOT, in fact, like it too humid. I'm sure it doesn't actually make much difference,but when i mist the plants in my 4' x 6' greenhouse I try to avoid getting too much onto the aubergines. Mine didn't do much last year either.

Thanks Mike, that makes me feel better

I'm going to disagree with Mike, sorry Mike! I always mist my aubergines, and they love it. It helps the fruits set and keeps the red spider mite at bay. They have never minded being alongside the taller tomatoes and cukes. HTH nbk!

why not some basil plants. They will love the heat and the root run.
