Hi Folks
Not tried spring cabbage before, have been recommended Spring Hero but is it too early to sow it? Packet says June/ July but have been advised not to plant until August? Also - do I sow into trays or straight into the bed?:?

We are eating Spring Hero that I sowed in a drill on 1st August, I thinned them and replanted some of the thinnings, I think the undisturbed ones are doing slightly better.

Hello Newbie
The advice you've been given is correct. Sowing spring cabbages too early can lead to lots of problems with the plants bolting early. I sow my spring greens towards the end of August for planting out September/October time but then I do live in a mild area. Where are you?

I am in the Stoke area - West Midlands. I usually er on the side of caution and go with 'the North' whenever working out when to plant stuff. So mid to late August then?

That should be OK, Newbie.
I guess the advice for August sowing that you've had was from someone in your area so go with that.
