BUSY PERIOD? What is everyone up too?

Have had a busy but productive weekend on the plot, picked my first broadbeans and noticed that the international kidney potatoes (not grown before) are ready for the first crop to be harvested, I am out of the area for a few days this week so will have them at the weekend with salad from the plot no doubt.

I also planted outdoors, tomatoes (Marmande and Gardener's delight) Cucumber, courgettes and sweet corn, am still looking for a spot for my pumpkins. Now there is more weeding to do, it never ends!! I am going to Manchester for a few days this week to see my poorly Dad, wonder what the plot will look like on my return? Weeding is the thing to keep on top of I think....

Anyway what is everyone else up too?

Me too......

...though we did pick some very baby broadbeans and the first Calabrese heads at the weekend. Probably completely the wrong time, but I also planted out some leek seedlings that have been waiting around for ages.

Had a good weekend on plot. Planted butternut squash, pumpkins, courgettes, brocoli and beans (for Chantal)
Today I`m feeling nervous cos my son has his first A level exam . Still not heard from him 3 weeks of feeling sick for me i suspect. Cant wait till they are over - expect he feels the same..

Hello compo,

I have also had a busy weekend,i put a plastic fence with nets over the top to stop the pigeons getting my brassicas.
Then i set some outside tomatoes (fantasio and red cherry,)also some french beans and peas.

got the climbing french beans and the sweetcorn planted out, picked a few broad beans and a primo cabbage should be picking a courgette next weekend.

We planted Brussels sprouts, purple sprouting broccoli, kohlrabi, Black Tuscan kale, early leeks, tagetes and cosmos over the weekend (the latter two to attract beneficial insects) and are hoping the promised rain tonight and tomorrow will materialise!

Only the marrows, Florence fennel and a few more French beans to be planted out now and they'll probably be happier in the open greenhouse for a few more days.

I also used the last of last year's onions which was still completely firm (Rijnsburger Balstora), so it's perennial onions from now on (thank you, Primrose, for sending them last year!!!) until the overwintering onions (Radar) have grown a bit more.

I planted my brassicas out last week, didn't go to the plot for about 5 days cos my son was ill and so was I.

So, toddled along there this morning and the bloody slugs had eaten the sodding lot....little barsteward...nearly 80 plants they've munched through.

The roots are still in tact so i'm hopeful of a recovery. I put down lime and urea, then watered in with some extra garlicy water....hopefully that'll help.

I then put 15 tomato plants into their big tubs in the greenhouse, planted on some cucumbers (which gota liberal water with the garlic mixture too) and the courgettes.

I have loads of flowers that now need to be planted out in the garden part, some gladdies and i'm trying to find a patch to put a climbing jasmin in.

Tomorrow, i'm sowing more sodding cabbages as an insurance and i'm going to start planting out the flowers in the garden. I also have to go and get some lovely tubs to plant the Grocks presents into and some for the front of my house too.

Also got some weeding to be done and I have some wildflower mix to plant around the edges of my lawn.

So, come tomorrow, Lizzie is going to be a busy bunny

We've planted out some bush beans, OH has made a frame for the strawberries. The frame has been put up at the front of the garden shed and we have planted out the sweetpeas at last. On Sunday OH planted 49 sunflowers all down the edge of one side of the allotment. I got carried away with seed packets and have still got more to put in. Transplanted 30 odd marigolds and some rudbeckia. The tomatoes have gone into the big tubs in the polytunnel and the courgette which has been outside has been moved into the polytunnel because it has just not done any growing in almost three weeks.

I had a busy day on saturday, started by planting out my brussels sprouts (now you have got me worried lizzie becuase i haven't been back down since). Put up my bean poles, 50 canes, 25 along each side of a raised bed, i did wigwams last year but reckon i have got more in this way, I planted them over onions causing much comment, I will have finished the onions by the time the beans get up the poles, these are last years autumn planted and they are mostly running to seed anyway, so just using them up fresh. Then I weeded around my crimson flowered broad beans and thinned out beetroot as these are planted in the same bed. I picked and ate my first peas, although tiny, in thier pod.Tied in my raspberries, and came home with a nice bunch of Asparagus.

At work this weekend, my day off today but heavy rain in the Vale of York!! Confined to the potting shed, extra sowing and a little 'housekeeping', maybe a visit this evening in wellies to pick some earlies for me tea.

Was at the lottie again and got loads more done. Planted out some night scented stock, nemisias, pansys and violas in the flower borders. Then I planted out the peas and gave everything a really good soaking with my garlic mixture. Did some weeding around the onions.

Then, I sat back on Grocks plot and had a lovely time watching all the bees and butterflies going about their business.

It was a glorious day here so, hopefully, i'll be back down again tomorrow to sort out some more flowers, plant up some tubs for the house, and plant some more peas, beans and do some more weeding
