Clematis wilt

Every year our clematis get wilt time and time again. I have just come home and gone round the garden only to find yet again they have started with wilt. I am sick and fed up with it. I dont know what to do as if they get past the wilt the flowers are fabulous.Dont know if I have put this in the right place but I am sure it will get moved if it is not.

Hi Catherine, seem to recall my late father being told many years ago, that clematis should be planted about 2inches lower than the pot soil level, they like their roots in the shade, and their heads in the sun. If the sight is sunny all day, place a bit of paving slab over the root.

Thanks Shallot Man we have done as much as we can to protect the clematis with small paving slabs and planted deeper that the top of the pot but nothing seems to work. I am going to feed everything with clematis feed to see if we can protect the rest of them.

I seem to recall seeing Clematis grown up through clay drainage pipes stood upright...
I think it was at Haddon Hall?? in Derbyshire...

Brick clay drainage pipes would be about a foot long and perhaps about 4" internal diameter or perhaps a bit more.??

I assume this was a bit more cooling.??..and stem protection as well.??
