Dear All,
I picked my first straw's today! They are in open ground and have not been covered (except by netting). The variety was honeyoye. I got about 400g, now where did I put the cream....
The old boy from two plots over was GREEN with envy.
Regards Sally Wright.

Picked my second boxful (300gr) yesterday, as opposed to the odd half dozen on days last week.
You may be green, OH, but soon we'll be turning red

Loads on the way, but no sign of redness yet. I'm looking after my neighbour's garden at the moment and there were 6 nice red ones a few days ago. It would have been rude to leave them there
Cheers, PJ.

What a difference the weather makes - the early heat wave we had last year meant that I was picking reasonable quantities of ciflorette strawbs on 22nd May - sad individual that I am, I took photos of them! This year, they're all just on the turn now - I reckon end of next week. I have had a couple of enormous marshmello berries, and they should also be ready at around the same time, judging by the look of them. Only trouble is, I'm off on holiday for a week tomorrow! Netting defenses will be going up against all comers (especially those pesky birds).
Still, at least I don't need to worry about watering after the deluges we've had over the last couple of days.
