I had bad news very early this morning. My brother in law who lives in Zambia and has terminal cancer has taken a turn for the worse and been medivaced back down to South Africa. I spoke to my sister this morning and things are not looking too good. We have known for 17 months that this would come but I dont think I am prepared for it.
And I think that because of how I feel everything else has gone wrong today. I have been up at my plot all day today. Thought it would be better if I stayed out of everyones way. I was so cross with everything today. I got up early and got the news about my brother in law. I thought I would look on the internet, it was not working and I could not get into the room where the box was because it was next to our bedroom and OH was sleeping. Then I went for petrol and god the blasted price has gone up again. £1.10 per litre. Then I bought a sandwich in Morrisons because I didn't have a breakfast and it was supposed to be vine ripened tomatoe salad sandwich and I had to look very hard to find two tiny slices of tomatoes with loads of red onions and a very small piece of lettuce. Then I went to B&Q and picked up a bag of compost for potting on plants. They had piled it high in a stack and I couldn't find anyone to help so I managed to get a bag down off the next stack and they charged me the wrong price. As the day has gone on nothing has gone right. I feel completely out of sorts and tomorrow I have to have fasting blood test so I cant have anything from 10pm. I hope things might improve tomorrow but at the moment I doubt it. I feel really sad for my sister who has had to live in limbo with my brother in law's illness for such a while. He is such a special chap and it is his 62 birthday on the 27th May. Really sorry to have been so longwinded and moaning but just not happy.

Dear Catherine, i'm so sorry to hear of your bad news.
Don't worry about having a moan, if it's helped a little thats all that counts.

This is just the place to have a grumble.
Sorry to hear about your bro-in-law and sorry for his ills, very sorry for your sister, who must be suffering too.
The rest is real life, which really just gets to us when other things are not going well.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Catherine, it is the worst, when you feel so hopeless, and they are so far away. My Dad is in a similar position but only a couple of hundred miles away, sometimes when his treatment has not gone well or he is grumpy (love him to bits) which is most of the time, I want to go up and cut his lawn, make him a cuppa and console my mum who usually cops for it. You are doing the right thing, talking about it and offloading it will help, I wish your family you and your brother, good grace, and the best help that they can get.

Thank you everyone for your support. It has been greatly appreciated. I have just heard that my B-I-L has had a stomach bypass in South Africa. Major surgery but it will give him 6 - 9 months ! So I am keeping my fingers crossed that he pulls through the next two weeks.
