Did anyone see Una Dunnet's Hostas, on Gardeners World not a hole in sight, she sprays them with a garlic wash, I will be trying that this weekend and hope to have some nice hostas during the summer.

I did see the programme, and i agree the Hostas were very hole free.

I'm tempted to ask "does it count if you've eaten a well seasoned Spag Bol earlier on and breathe heavily on your plants?!"
A few years ago, some chefs were debating the best way to add a continental touch to their salads. They all agreed garlic was the answer, but couldn't decide on the best method.
One suggested cutting a garlic clove in half and wiping it round the serving bowl before adding the salad leaves. The other scoffed at that and said his staff would prepare the salad whilst chewing a raw garlic clove. As a final step before serving to their customers, the staff would breathe deeply over the finished dish

Did the garlic wash, but only this afternoon did I spray it on the hostas when the sun had gone off them, I must admit I have only see one snail this year so far, I may spray some on 1/2 a row of carrots to see if it would work on the carrot fly and leave the other 1/2 row to see if it makes any difference.
OH, yes I am enjoying this weather,only there is no end to the watering, everything dries out so quickly, the soil on the allotment is sandy.

Hosta garlic spray
2 garlic cloves
crush in 2 pints of water
boil up for 3-4 minutes
Strain and botle
Dilute mixture 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon and water on late afternoon so it dries on the leaves.
I wrote it down as she said it so hope that is right. It is certainly worth trying. I'm going to try it on some toad lilies and a clematis that the slugs won't leave alone too.
