Yesterday I went to collect the eggs and found this monster, along with three normal sized eggs.

Last month I found the tiny one, I think someone coughed or sneezed and it popped out.

I checked all the girls and no one seemed to have prolapsed and we had four normal eggs today. A big relief.

Ooh err. Usually a small egg is the start of lay, but I think I recall that supersize eggs are the accumulation of two days or more. Katie Thear will have the answer!

The small egg came amidst a load of normal eggs. I only had Selsey at the time so it had to be hers and she's in full production.

The big egg came following three days of four eggs (ie one each) so it couldn't have been stuck in the pipe, so to speak.

I wouldn't like to see the size of the cuckoo that could lay THAT egg!

Normal eggs again yesterday, I just hope this was a one off.

I bet the chicken who laid it hopes it was a one off too

It has changed things in the chicken shed though, which is very odd.

Having been given the three new girls they did their own thing but not together, there was always a couple and one on her own and none of them trailed around with Rocky and Selsey. I was quite concerned for the solo bird and was looking out for bullying. However, since the giant egg appeared, all five of them stick together like glue around the garden and appear to get on very well.

As I say, most odd.

Some Poultry initiation rite perhaps, now she can join the flock?

I think I'd rather she wore a pinny and stood blindfold on one leg. Far less painful
