The end of an era!!!!

I am devastated this week as my most favourite trousers are no more. The trousers I have worn for the last 20, yes 20 years have given up. Almost every weekend gardening , walking, camping and everything have gone. I am beside my self, They were the first Zimbaloos trousers I bought in 1987, before walking trousers really took on. They were made of very heavy cotton lovely mixed green and blue and alsorts of colours mixed in and very comfortable. In fact my friends granddaughter asked me, not very long ago, if I only had one pair of trousers because she only saw me in them. Now they are gone, the pocket caught on a door handle this week and it ripped the seam from hip to ankle and there was no way that they would be repaired. I dont think they make them like that anymore. Dont know what I am going to wear now. - I do have a very thin pair of blue zimbaloos that are at the bottom of my cupboard which might see me a few more years!!!! Does anyone else have an item of clothing that they cant live without?

Dear Catherine, i don't suppose you kept the receipt to your trousers did you, i would have expected them to have lasted longer. :)

As regards old favourite clothes, i've got a wardrobe full of them.

I will be thinking of you at this sad time.

I still wear the floppy hat that I used on a kibbutz in 1969.

OH Thank you for that. Yes I am trying to cope with it but it is hard. :? No I cant find the receipt though I have looked!!!! I have never been one of those people who need designer clothers, handbags or shoes (though my daughter does have that problem). But give me a good pair of gardening gloves, gardening anything and I would be over the moon. My trousers were the best. Shame never mind.

Mike What was it like in a Kibbutz in 1969? How have you managed to hold on to a hat from 1969?

You could frame them & hang on the allotment shed wall.

I still have the navy quilted anorack I wore on my honeymoon 42 years ago (and it wasn't new then!). It is now absolutely disgusting and used for dirty jobs like painting fences, but for sentimental reasons I can't bring myself to part with it.

I still have my old leather biking jacket purchased for the princely sum of £6. 2. 6d back in 1957

I wore it last year (still fits...just) and my Governor was totally disgusted with me and asked when I was going to grow up...my mates, on the other hand, thought it was really cool

I still have it. :D

My OH wants to clear out the loft and up there is an african wooden mask my sister gave me for my birthday in 1978 when I was on holiday with her in Zambia. Its not very nice but for sentimental reasons I wont part with it. Now we are discussing what to do with it. Should it go or should it stay? I wont put it up on the wall because it doesnt go with anything.

Give it back to your sister for her next birthday with the hope that she'll enjoy having this sentimental reminder of your Zambian holiday after all these years! But give her another prezzie as well!

Dear Catherine, you could always put the mask on, get a bamboo cane in one hand and start throwing more watering cans about in the garden.

You never know it might scare the neighbours enough to stop them staring over the fence.

Hope that made you smile in what is an awkward situation. :)

Primrose I dont think that she would want it back and I dont know why she bought it in the first place but because I am very sentimental I cant throw it away, daft I know. God knows what the kids will think when we have gone and have to sort out the loft.

OH Thank you it made me laugh, our other side nexd door neighbour has lots of pot animals over the garden, a big owl, squirrel, frogs etc., a few years back we had a problem with a heron who took a fancy to our fish, so as a temporary measure till we could get to the garden centre for some new mesh to cover the pond we fastened fishing line between our washing posts to make it difficult to land and fastened two plastic bags to the washing line. (temporary measures) she came round and asked me how long were the plastic bags going to stay as they were in her line of sight. She is also very nosy) I explained the situation and then changed them from Morrisons to M&S bags a little more up market I think. Anyway we had no more problems with the heron or her.
