When I use homemade compost from the compost heap especially in the greenhouse, as well as the seeds germinating lots of the weeds and grass germinate as well. Is there anyway of ovoiding this happening without the obvious solution of using fresh bought propriety compost.

The Late Arthur Billett said that as you were never able to get a compost heap to heat up enough to kill weed seed, the solution was never to put them into the heap in the first place.
That also goes for any diseased plants as well!
it is not a good idea to use home produced compost for seed sowing,as it can be hard to distinguish wanted seedlings from weeds, though the weeds usually germinate first!
If you are using it in a mixture for potting on, it is easy to pull out the weeds as they germinate!
Cheers
