Dunlins

I don't know if anybody is remotely interested in this, but I had to tell somebody: we today saw a pair of beautiful dunlin in summer plumage foraging at the edge of a small pond just outside the village. One can see hundreds of them in winter plumage on the coast, but I know they breed on the moor here though at that time it's usually very difficult to get anywhere near them before they fly off. We watched them from the car with binoculars only about 30 feet away. Magic![/url]

Dear Monika, i'm sure there are lots of people that will be interested.
I feel quite embarressed that i cannot picture what a Dunlin looks like, i'll have to look it up.

Thank you Chantal, in some ways that is how i imagined them to look. They certainly are a lovely looking bird.

Thanks for that link, Chantal. It's a lovely selection of dunlins. The summer plumage is the one with the black belly, edged with white and the brown speckled back and that's exactly what they looked like.
