Just taken on a 3/4 virgin lottie plot. Spent 3 hrs this morning digging by hand realising I was getting nowhere fast as its basically just a ploughed field with great dry clods etc. Fancy a rotavator, but cant afford a new one. Theres a couple on Ebay, can anyone please advise what to look for and what hp will I need to do the lottie justice? Thanks in anticipation

the bigger the better :D before you buy off ebay, you may not need it again, where will you store it, have you considered hiring one for this year, one of the local tool hire places will have one that is man enough for the job. next year the job will be easier and a smaller easier to handle machine will be adequate.

Hi Richard, had a look at hire shops, cost is quite high compared to 2nd hand cost. Good point about storage though! I`ll have to give it some thought, as hand digging will take weeks with a full time job as well!!

Look up previous threads on this forum where "Howard 350" is mentioned and you should find some discussion on the relative merits of the two classes of rotovators. :D
