Help. My Howard 350 which I bought last Autumn was not running properly - it was stalling when tilling. So I thought I would try adjusting the carb and I have messed it up and it wont go at all now. I was wondering how many turns both the fuel needle and the idle needle need from bottom. It has a Kohler 141 engine and as far as I can tell the original carburettor. Any help would be much appreciated.

one and a half turns from the bottom on both the main and idle jet should get it started

Look at
http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinecata ... m=K-Series where you can download Kohlers "Classic" engines manuals.
I have all the 350 manuals (courtesy of Paul Turner), pm me if you want a copy, they are a bit big for e-mail being 30Mb zipped up with the engine manuals.

Tony,
Sounds like its the carb. As Peter has pointed out the carb initial setting info is in the Kohler manuals. However have you ever had the machine running properly when tilling? I had a similar problem with mine when I first acquired it - it would run OK under no load, but when the rotors hit the earth it stalled. The problem was with the points/condenser, which I cured for ever by fitting a Kohler electronic ignition module.
