Spuds and allotments

Just about to take on a 3/4 allotment plot which at present is brand new and is basically just a ploughed field. Now, I reckon the best thing to do is initially grow loads of spuds, and would like to know what the latest time for growing main crop is?

Evening,
My main spuds aren't going in until this or next weekend - we've had crappy weather, I've been studying and all in all, not got around to it. Most of the old boys have only had theirs in for a week or two, so I should think you've got at least a couple of weeks' grace yet.
Good luck,
Vivien

I know we are much further north than you, but our main crop doesn't go in until well into May and is always fine. We can get frost until about 10 June, so it's not worth risking an earlier planting.

Agree with timing comments but if you have got clean ploughed land why mainly use it for spuds - start how you should be carrying on and set up rotation beds.

Thanks Geoff, I guess what I really need is advise on how to set up such a large expanse of land. I thought short term get some spuds in to allow planning time. Any setting up advice as its a virgin plot?(they all are)
