Is it advisable to use sand from the sandhills by the seaside that have not been covered by sea water.
The use that I want it for is to mix with compost to raise cutings. If this is not advisable what type of sand is. Advice please.
Regards Brenjon

i would guess that it would have a high salt content from wind blown spray. perhaps you could wash it before use.

I read in the paper a while back that a woman had been prosecuted for using seaside sand that had blown off the dunes and onto her garden. The law says you can't take it for any reason (mainly to stop builders merchants stripping the beaches)

If you are using the stuff I should be very discrete about how you collect it.

Hi Brenjon,
I use builders sand and plain peat in a 50/50 mix. I have an old Belfast sink filled with it and cuttings root very well in it.

Gerry.
