Germinating Chillis on tissue

I've sown two batches of Hungarian Wax chillis (from 2006 & 2007 seed packets). Neither batch has germinated. In desperation I'm now going to try and germinate some on damp tissue paper to try & make up for lost time & wonder whether anybody else has tried germinating chillis or peppers in this way?
It obviously works successfully with parsnips.

Haven't tried it with chillies 'cos I haven't had a problem with them germinating. Sorry.

Hi Primrose,
You can germinate many different seeds on damp kitchen paper to test the viability of the seed but not all of them will transfer to the soil successfully.
As Tigger says she has not had any problem with them so has not tried and I am afraid that I am in the same position but this does not preclude you from trying at least to so if they are still viable.
Will be interested to hear how you get on.
JB.

Hi Primrose,
My hot wax have still not appeared either. I think I might bring the pots home and pop on a radiator following advice on Toms.

Penny
PS shame about the waether forecast for the week-end

I thought chillies needed a temperature about 18C to germinate, is that right? I know I can only every germinate them in a propogator.

Chillis often benefit from some warmth, so either a radiator or an airing cupboard work well.

I start mine in Jiffy blocks in the airing cupboard , in a bowl covered with clingfilm to ensure they don't dry out. This year's ones have taken between 1-2 weeks before they showed any sprouts (though this will vary with variety).
