first seedlings

My first seedlings have burst through the soil today. Little cherry tomatoe plants . I still get really excited. None of the other seeds have started growing yet but this hopeful sign of spring has cheered me up on a cold windy day

Happy today too. I have more babies - early nantes carrot babies, one broad bean baby and a sweet pea baby. My asparagus was delivered today as well. trench digging tomorrow afternoon.

Strong trousers, wellies and a windproof top might be more appropriate don't you think Lizzie?

And I have two parsnip seedlings peeping through, from my first attempt to kick them off on tissue paper and plant in loo rolls. Always exciting when you try something different and it works.

I have planted my asparagus this afternoon. Hopefully it will grow well. Looking forward to tasty spears next year. Also put in my shallot and onion sets . Feeling hopeful for this years growing season.

Just haven't had chance to get to the lottie, i've got mum ill, the bad weather didn't help, my bones have been causing me untold problems and now I have a chest infection
I'll get there..........plants will catch up

I knocked back the green manure (phacelia) for the second time this morning and also dug about a quarter of last year's brassica bed (where I took out the kale and Brussels sprouts last weekend). In spite of the rains recently, it was surprisingly pleasant and easy to dig!
It's far too early to sow anything outside here, but a few peas and braod beans are coming on in the greenhouse as well as tomatoes, celeriac and a few herbs. And I planted some early potatoes (Rocket, Kestrel and Ulster Sceptre) in potato bags in the greenhouse which will go outside later.
The oystercatchers, lapwings and curlews were giving lovely displays all around me this morning! Spring must have sprung.
