Sweet peas growing too quickly.

When's the earliest I can risk planting out my sweet peas? They were sown in autumn, have been nipped back twice and the roots are now growing out of the pots. If I plant them out into their growing location will they be frost hardy? (If not, I'll have to put some of my big plastic water bottle cloches over them).

Primrose, I have had the same problem in previous years (this year I only sowed the sweetpeas in January) and I planted them out in early March, surrounded by a screen made of fleece, just to keep off the wind. Freezing temperatures won't harm them but freezing winds might.
