I've just had to dig up a japanese anenome in my garden (variety unknown). It was beautiful but a real thug - sending out runners through the borders and coming up everywhere and generally just taking over.

Please could someone recommend a variety that has better manners. Don't mind what colour.

Dear Diane, i think nearly all of Japanese Anenome's are pretty thuggish if they in their ideal growing conditions.

One that does spring to mind though, is, Bressingham glow. It is a dark pink, about 36 inches high and spreads about 18 inches.

I do love Japanese Anenome's i must admit.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I don't think there are any well behaved ones. I've had some in the border for a few years and one clump insists on growing at the front and through the path edging even though I dig it out every year. I try not to use weed killer but am seriously thinking of using some on that.

It is still a lovely plant when it grows where you want it.
