I just took a second plot,right nextdoor the the one I already have,I must be insane .
Anyway,on this new plot,there are some raspberry canes which look ok,but they need a good clear up,as the last tenants were a complete and utter waste of space,and let the whole thing overgrow,and at the bottom of the raspberry canes is a load of twitch,I was wondering if they would be strong enough for me to fork them up,and move them to a new prepared area ,I have never had rasperry before and as you will be aware,most info& books only talk about putting things in from a fresh start,so if any of you out there know and can help,that would be great!!

Are they autumn or summer fruiting?

Thought so, so treat them as summer, cut out all of last years growth after digging them up, it can be used as a lifting aid.

To aid with couch removal use a big bucket of water to wash the roots in, then replant at a location of your choice.

I now have lots of rows after digging up most of a six by twelve plot two years ago.

Dear Boldverg, don't forget Raspberries are fairly shallow rooted plants, so only put the fibrous roots about 2inches to 3inches deep.

Hi, I have always just cut off at ground level, The canes removed are then stuck in sand then used to form a new bed, Ive never had any problems and have not reduced in fruit production per plant
