Dear Chantal, what a lovely photo, and full of memories i should think.
I couldn't help but notice you grew better carrots then, than you can now.

Better carrots than I can grow now too OH
I have another photo somewhere, taken on the same day, which I've been trying to find. This one turned up as my mum and I were sorting out my grandmother's home last week. She's finally gone into care (93 and crackers) so I think I'd rather remember the old days...

Hello Peter,
It's a Qualcast B1 sidewheel pushmower in the photo...the first real mower I ever used.
..in action reclaiming my Grandfathers orchard.
I had attempted mowing at an earlier age but failed as it was in fact the ewbank carpet sweeper that I had taken onto the front lawn whilst Mum wasn't looking.!!
At Grandfathers I used the Qualcast B1 but at home I moved onto a Qualcast Super Panther roller type push mower then a Webb Witch with better spec' cutting cylinder and ratcheting split rear roller...petrol powered products only came into my world by twist of fate in 1980/81 or thereabouts...
..thinking on though...I did used to "help" our neighbour mow his lawn many years earlier...I used to walk alongside holding one handle as he mowed along with his late 1940s Atco/Villers 2 stroke...
We have some video transfered from cine of me with my little wheelbarrow when brand new. The barrow was a gift from family friends, they shot the cine film of me trundling it around their lawn
Years later, once proficient with full size barrow, I worked for these friends as my first gardening job during school holidays...
The funny thing about my little barrow is that the pressed steel contruction..deemed a light weight childs toy...is now the method of contruction for full size barrows.!!
Clive.
