had a letter thump on the door mat this morning, summons form the council to go to court for non payment of the council tax due on 1 december and 1 jan..... eversince council tax started ive allways paid 2 month together about when the first is due ... so october and novembers didnt reach the council till the 4th of october..... funny thing is i paid on one of our flats at the same time, they arnt summonsing on that one, anyway after a phonecall we have now agreed to send the dec and jan installment for both properties by the end of december......roughly a month later than i would have done
A couple of years ago, the bailiffs turned up at our place to claim goods equivalent to a year's council tax because they said we had failed to make any payments. Lyndon rang me at work and I happened to have a the details in my bag which I read out to them over the phone.
Turned out they were putting our payments against a house with the same name, some 10 miles away. The people living there hadn't complained.
The next year, the same thing happened.
Now I insist on paying in person and getting a receipt!

Hi Richard and Tigger,
This is not about council tax but a dishonest bus company.
Mostly people want to travel from A-C but at B,which is in the middle of nowhere, everybody is forced to get off the bus and the driver then changes the number of the bus and everybody gets back on again but have to pay again to travel to C. You cannot buy a ticket from A-C. To me that is grossly dishonest.
I feel that it is things like that, which are after all licenced by local authorities, should be highlighted at election times but I have been told by a local Parish Councillor that it would not make a scrap of difference. They may suggest matters of policy but they have no part of the running of any council department. That is the jurisdiction of the professional staff who are only answerable the the Executive Officer and not to the electorate.
Seems to me that elections are therefore a farce.
JB.

hi jb got to agree with you again, oh dear, we had an argument with a council department and it became obvious that the officials would carry on following their own ideas with little regard of published council policy or the actual wording of the laws they were "quoting" from, would tell lies and swear black was white. the elected councillors are largely wasting their time. the proceedures both internal and external for complaining about the conduct of officers are a farce designed to do nothing very slowly.
we actually took a complaint through the proceedures and got a panel of councillors to find in our favour and tell the officials to rewrite their policy to comply with the law , what happened the officials ...ignored the councillors and did nothing.... all complaints eventually end up with the county solicitor who has no time limit to make a decision and outside agencies (ombudsman etc) wont look at it until the council complaints procedure is finished.
enough of local councils ..... if all our laws are made in brussels and we are allready paying for regional assemblies why do we need mps in westminster? guess its time i went back to sorting bits of paper to calculate how much tax ive got to give the ...muppets... in january
