just about to venture into 'keeping a few hens at the end of the garden'. on the waiting list for some 'rescue' battery hens - anyone had experience of these? also want some guinea fowl but cant seem to locate any here in kent! any ideas?

Hi Ali,
I have looked through the last three months of 'Smallholder' magazine and there is only one advert for Guinea Fowl and that is for a company in Devon.
I suspect that if you wait until spring to come there will be more breeders to choose from.
As for ex-battery hens I have heard mostly good but a few adverse comments as well. I should go for them.
Here abouts the poultry farms will not let you have them for some unknown reason. A mean spirited lot! I suppose that if you are prepared to incarcerate a chicken, as they do, they are only performing to character.
