My son has been grumbling since last Saturday about his his left arm hurting, but when it is manipulated then says it does not hurt, even had a paramedic friend check it out, so we were working on the bad bruising assumption.

He was playing rugby for his school and tackled a large lad in the approved style, full arms wrap and hit hard, down they both went with him on top,

Today he again played rugby for his school. Before even getting onto the sports field, walking up the footpath he was bitten hard on the leg by an ill-behaved Westie, but described it to me as a nip. I had been putting my non-driving mud-boots on and he had been cleaned up and elasto-plasted by the PE teacher.

So he took to the field and as befits the captain played in the thick of it as usual, but came off complaining about his arm after the first quarter. Went back on in the second half and scored a try, but came off again grimacing and muttering about his arm. His school won and we went home for him to bath the mud off.

On close inspection the bite looked deeper than he had described and his arm was slightly swollen, so as the GP was emergencies only callout and our minor injuries unit is 9-5 Mon-Fri only I took him to A&E in the next town.

Nurse cleaned the cut, doctor said it will be ok and he is covered by jabs at age four for tetanus etc. Son had to be nudge-reminded to mention his arm and after poking and flexing where only very localied pain was found, got sent for an x-ray.

He had a fractured ulna, so left in a half plaster, has to return first thing on monday for a full plaster if the swelling has subsided, which will be on for six weeks at least.

He was due to play tomorrow but will have to watch his team instead.

Silly thing is, after the school match where he broke it he:
did club rugby training on the sunday.
tuesday he did rugby in PE.
wednesday he did rugby club after school.
friday he did rugby in PE.
this morning he played for the school.

Going by the comments from his friends about carrying on after the dogbite I think his toughness index at school will be up several notches when he appears late on monday with a full plaster.

Just goes to show rugby players are proper blokes, unlike some sports we could mention.

Dear Peter, sounds as if they breed them pretty tough round your way. :)
Please wish him well from me, and tell him to not get too frustrated having to sit on the try line, sometimes you can pick up some tips from having to do this.

Peter, what a lad. You and the school should be proud of him. Typical,if I may say so, rugby player. If he had played kiss ball, he would probably been in intensive care!

Dear Peter, will you please pass this message on to your Son.

Where theres pain theres a claim, start by sueing Father for lack of parental caring. Or settle out of court for extra pocket money.

I guess there is no street-cred in the next suggestion but you could ask him.....

What about allowing you to sign the plaster on behalf of the KG Website Gang?

Way too late Compo. It was completely covered after one day at school and I had to exercise parental control over one very prominently placed word.
