Somebody actually apologises !

Out of my recently delivered Unwins seed catalogue dropped a yellow notice saying "Yes, the Managing director made a mistake! Not the computer, not the new office junior, But me - me, the MD who was supposed to make the final check that everything was spot-on! I'm sorry".

How refreshing that somebody in a senior position is prepared to stand up and admit making a mistake. I just wish that this "buck stops here" sense of responsibility were adopted occasionally by our leaders in Westminster and others in public life.

Dear Primrose i have to agree, you don't get many of the top dogs admitting to making mistakes.

Although i have admitted to things that i haven't done, just to calm things down, before.

Hi Primrose,
Ever being the cynic, I would hazard a bet the mistake would have profited him.

Hi Chantal,
I guess, very grudgingly, that you are correct.
Who the hell in their right mind would give over expensive Unwins a second glance otherwise.
JB.

Come to think if Alastair Campbell started apologising we would have solved global warming because hell would have frozen over.

Geoff - with quips like that you should have been a politician! That's far better than anything Alastair Campbell could have come up with, even on a good day !

That’s been said before but I cannot fund a new political party, my views being too obscure for any of the current ones.
I am an atheist republican who wants to disestablish the C of E and abolish the monarchy. I would quit all our overseas territories like the Falklands, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland, etc., close all overseas bases and bring the troops home as a National Guard, stop pretending we can police the world, scrap atomic weapons, throw US out of NATO, isolate Israel until they quit the occupied territories, move the UN to Jerusalem which would be under secular administration with equal access to all, fund UN by 100% worldwide aircraft fuel duty, etc. I have a few economic policies as well; abolish government borrowing (how can they criticise the credit crunch when they are the worst offenders), abolish the base rate concept and make the banks compete, control the economy with an interest tax if you want to slow down the economy you raise the tax (and thereby fund the social costs of a downturn), somehow reduce financial privacy so that every expenditure is traceable (the theory being that crime is for profit, if you purchase something it should be possible to audit that you obtained the money you used legitimately), abolish offshore tax havens such as Isle of Man or Channel Islands (make them part of France?).
Bet you don’t want to sign up for RepublicUK!
