Long dark evenings

What do you all do now it is too dark to do much outside ? I have to do some late shifts until 10pm. For a treat I went to a barn dance last night. Haven't had so much fun for ages. I have enough craft projects to keep me going all winter.

Hi Happymouse

Two evenings a week I revise Italian with friends. I seem to spend at least one night a fortnight doing paperwork of some sort for the Allotment Association and besides that I either cook, read, knit or sew counted cross-stich, usually whilst watching TV. In between all that I seem to spend a fair amount of time on here plus another (language) forum on which I use Italian. I don't write so much but it takes a lot, lot longer.

To stop me going totally crackers with no gardening, I do spend a few evenings over the winter going through the seed catalogues and planning for next year.

i spend too much time peering at the computer and reading,.... currently ive got about 20 boxes of used books waiting to be individually loaded onto amazon, trouble is i keep finding ones i want to read before they get sold. currently we have 4800 odd listed for sale, the target is to hold at 5000 by the end of the year, but the damn things keep selling , some dont make much but each one that goes out takes with it advertising for another online business ( www.therapynetworkonline.co.uk/index.php?page=products ) .

What dark evenings?

It's a little sad, but my allotment is directly next to a streetlight, which gives me a bit more flexibility than you guys.

As a result, I'm still trying to catch up with Chantal on my Italian.

ps I suppose there's a chance that some of the plants don't realise the day length is supposed to have decreased too!

I just enjoy sitting in front of the log fire either reading or day dreaming, but i also go to bed earlier in the winter to catch up on some much needed sleep. :)

Well, I should be brushing on my Italian too, (Buona Sera Chantal e Colin, come state?) or wiping off the dust on the organ and trying to remember some of the pieces I used to play. But like OH, I find it quite difficult to get motivated once it's dark so some earlier nights with a good book often seem to be the favourite choice. Having been involved in a local campaign back in the Spring to save our village library from drastic cutbacks, I now feel obliged to help keep them in business!!

I'm trying to keep on top of the ironing - a lost cause during the summer months. I'll also do some reading, sewing, knitting and embroidery. I plan and cook a week's meals in advance as I usually have a number of late nights every week throughout the winter. I'll watch more TV and I'm determined to spend this winter selling stuff on Ebay (rather than buying it). All that said, I'll have a few hours each week planning next year's fruit and veg.

Oh - I'm going to join a choir too.
