I read recently that DEFRA want us all to turn to long life milk, didnt read that the canteens in the Houses of Parliament were setting an example and going over to said milk. Is this another case of don't do as I do. Shallotman

Hi Richard,
I know a vegetarian (Vegan) that has orange juice with her cornflakes and swears it's better than any milk that could be produced. I wonder what she has in her tea!

I'm sure they're drinking it with their leftovers

I'm quite happy with Long Life Skimmed Milk - we only shop once a month so it is convenient.
I breakfast on muesli moistened with fruit juice - home made from either currants or apples at the moment.

I must say I prefer fresh but when in France, sometimes its not available and uht has to do. I suppose I can get used to it like I did when semi skimmed first came out.

Dear All,
I am sure that when this story broke the French were cited as having something like 90% of their milk as UHT; and there I was under the impression that the French were a nation of foodies and gourmets......

I have spent a lot of time in France and I can honestly say that I have never seen a French person over the age of 15 drink milk (except in coffee for breakfast).
That's the answer: foodies and gourmets don't drink baby food
On a more serious note, a very considerable proportion of the world's population are lactose intolerant after childhood. See this interesting
set of figures.

Hi Alan,
Of course most French Milk is made into either Cheese or Yoghurt and although I use a lot of Milk I do not drink it by the glass full. In Normandy they do tend to have more fresh milk available and this is really because their climate is very like our own.
Climatic conditions in France means that storage has been a great problem down the ages and UHT milk is
generally available throughout the whole of country.
When it comes to the African continent things are very different but apart from mothers milk Goats/Sheep's Milk is used as a substitute. These milks do not seem to have the same problems as Cows Milk.
I believe that people with Lactose Intolerance also drink Goats milk here in the UK. Certainly years ago certain babies could not utilize Mothers or Cows Milk and they were raised on Goats Milk.
