Do squirrels spraint their caches ?

We have a semi-tame squirrel who knocks several times a day on our patio window to beg for nuts. Those he doesn't eat immediately, he buries in our borders and then appears to be peeing/sprainting on them. I've occasionally seen him sniffing the ground and then digging and wonder if this is a squirrel's regular way of finding the nuts it buries.
