Just thought I'd mention that if your District Council offers GRBs, it's a good idea to have one, even if you have a compost heap. My DC does one for £12 a year, emptied fortnightly. I share it with my neighbour and it's great for getting rid of all the weeds we dig up that never seem to rot down properly on the heap.

Hi John

We get one from Rugby BC free of charge and have done for years.

I use it for dumping weeds such as docks and thistles that are difficult to compost.

Craven District Council (which includes Skipton) has provided us with a large wheelie bin for garden rubbish for several years now. This is emptied fortnightly and alternates with another large bin, subdivided for glass, paper and tins. The compost from the rotted garden rubbish can then be bought.

I have 2 one at home and one at the allotment, both emptied fortnightly free of charge (north tyneside council). When my neigbour annually trims his leylandi, he tends to utilise every one's in the street  so very useful !

All you folks are lucky. In our part of Bucks we don't get anything and have to lug all our surplus greenery down to the Council Tip.

In Birmingham we get green bags from the council which are emptied once a fortnight, we can put out as many as we like, when the freebee bags are used up we buy some from Wilkensons,
having the council collect is very useful, now we haven't our own car now.
