Recycling a domestic shredder

The motor in our shredder has burnt out and it looks like we'll have to replace the equipment. It has a very robust metal case and I'm loath to chuck it out. Can anybody suggest any suitable way of using it in the garden? It has a removable lid which obviously has slits in it for shredding paper.

Dear Primrose, i had the same problem ten years ago when my shredder's motor burnt out.
The only thing i salvaged off it was the tubular legs, these i cut into lengths, put a slight bend in them and used them for jointing up the joints in new brickwork.
But i don't suppose you do a lot of brick laying. :)

The rest i skipped i'm afraid to say.

Hi Primrose,
Has it actually burnt out or did it just pack up working? It could be that a new set of carbon brushes are needed. If so you should be able to obtain these, probably, locally. Find a friendly electrician and ask his advice.
