not really a gardening question so thought i'd ask it here. i salvaged from a skip a large ammount of decking and have built a base at my allotment and laid planks on top, I was wondering whether i should screw them or nail them down (i nailed the base together) I dont have a rechargeable drill so whatever i use i will have to hire anyway. I have worked out it will be 320 nails/screws so no way i could do that by hand. Some of the planks already have holes on from before would i use the same holes or make new ones next to it? Also from this lot got 3 raised beds 12'x4' out of the chunky boards so it was quite a haul!

I don't know if this is the right answer, but when Ground Force went around decking the planet Tommy Walsh always used a nail gun.

ordinary nails will easily pull out which is why screws are used to give firmer joints , but now you can get anular shanked nails, they have parrallel ridges down the shank, put in with a hammer and they will not pull out till the wood rots. if you cant find them locally try screwfix.com
