Is it ok to plant next years garlic from cloves grown this year, or are the cloves that the seed companies sell different in some way?

Dear GIB, i think the biggest difference would be that the cloves from a seed company would be guaranteed disease free.
So as long as yours were they should be fine.

Thinking about it, and maybe someone will know this as i'm no expert on Garlic, would rust pass on from one year to the next on home saved Garlic cloves. :?:

Dear Oldherbaceous

Many thanks for your reply. Last years cloves were purchased from a seed company and they have grown very well. They have stored weel and show no signs of any disease so i will use them this year and see what happens.

I used to grow garlic from our home-grown garlic (probably originally bought from a shop for eating, not growing) but since growing them from bought-in bulbs, specially for growing, I have found that the later really do much, much better.
