This is cauliflower "Galleon."

It's wilted like this in the last 3 hours!!.

The ones each side of it are fine at the moment.

Any ideas?

Photobucket only seems to have loaded 1/2 the picture. Sorry, don't know what to do about that!! You'll get the idea, though, hopefully.

Hello Guy
I don't know exactly what your problem is but with sudden death like this it's always caused by something going wrong with the roots.
I doubt if this one can be saved - best to dig it to find out what's happened and see if you can stop the problem spreading to the other caulis.

Hi John

Just dug it up.

Very interesting.

The roots look fine, but the stalk is really slimy and repulsive smelling.

Any ideas?

Hello Guy
This sounds like a general bacterial rot of some sort. It's not specific to caulis. The stem has become damaged in some way, slugs or hoe damage for example, and this rot has set in. There's nothing you can do once its started, though in the early stages you could try keeping the on plant dry side to allow any damage to heal itself.
I'd check your other caulis though to see if they're alright.
