I love the scent of my small Katsura tree in the autumn. The falling foliage exudes the smell of burnt sugar.
Does anyone have anything else scenting their garden in the autumn? It occurred to me it would be nice to get some other plants in to add pleasure to the autumn tidy up.

Dear Jenny, apart from manure, you could try sowing some sweetpea seed direct in the ground in june, they should be in flower now when all the others have finished.

Interesting OH. My sweet peas are still flowering furiously and have been for months and months. I do cut off every single flower ever two days and there are still hundreds of buds. It looks like they'll keep going until the frost comes.

Sorry Jenny, I can't think of anything else in my garden that smells particularly good right now.

How about a few late flowering Chrysanthemums, now that is a special Autumny smell.

Yes my sweet peas are still going too, though lots of the stems are very short.
'Mums are a good idea but will take a bit of forward planning. Any scented shrubs or perennials in flower now?

Dear Jenny, i thought this would be quite an easy one, but i must say i have been finding it quite a struggle to come up with much, as i've been busy potting up bits and pieces.

Two i have come up with are,
Mahonia Japonica, which should just be coming out anytime now.
And a Clematis called Rehderiana, this has a fruity fragrance.

Of course there are all the scented roses.

I hope you get some more answers as i will be interested myself.

I'm not a big mahonia fan, but there's always room for another clematis!
