Had to share this one. Was chatting on the phone to an old Shropshire allotment mate where they'e been plagued by kids climbing over a vulnerable stretch of their railings. They had the bright idea of piling loads of fresh manure along the inside of these railings, so it was impossible to climb over without landing in the pooh. It's worked! The kids have gone elsewhere for their fun rather than dirty their expensive stolen trainers.

Funny how nature often has the answer.

Now that's interesting. I suggested doing just that along a stretch of fence on our site that the kids were coming over.

I was told by the Council that if the kids fell in the manure we'd be liable to pay for their clothes to be cleaned.

We're now looking at planting pyracanthus (suggested by and supplied by the Council) to stop them even trying to get over the fence.

However, surely if they shred themselves on pyracanthus surely this would do more damage than landing in manure?

Talk about confusing.

i would ask for a written opinion from the council legal department, if its a verbal opimion from a minion he may just not like the thought of heaps of manure arround the place...... if the kids have got some on their clothes they must have stolen it...

I think the fact that muck can't hurt you is the brilliant bit. Nobody bleeds because they fell in the pooh. I suppose soot would be good too, and last longer. Hmm. My little friend and I fell in a soot heap when I was about 5, it took our Mums hours to get us clean again. (and yes - we were being naughty and the soot had been put there to a purpose and yes, we were deterred from that particular naughtiness again.)
