Pruning Glen Ample Raspberries

Last autumn we planted ten raspberry canes - Glen Ample - and as expected they did not fruit this year (except for about half a dozen on a short cane!) Each cane has produced at least one - sometimes two - long shoots to about seven foot in height which we tied into the supports......my question is...what do we do now as I am confused by the fact that things I read say we should now cut them back? Is this right or are these the canes that, if left, will produce fruit next year...sorry very confused! All help much appreciated!

Canes that grow in 2007 will/should fruit in 2008. After they have fruited in 2008, cut them down. By then new canes will have grown which will fruit in 2009...and so on...

Thanks madasafish - so I understand that you don't cut back any growth of that current year but only the growth from the previous season? Is that correct?
Thanks.
