How many varieties of Victoria Plum are there?

This may sound a silly question, but over the past few weeks we have bought Victoria Plums from Farm Shops, Supermarkets and market stalls, and we seem to have bought numerous different varieties - some with yellow skins and acidic tastes, some with pink skins and pappy flesh and some with purple skins with no flavour at all. Few of them seem to resemble the magnificence of Victoria Plums picked from my grandparent's tree many years ago. Is it this season's bad weather, are we being conned by supermarkets about varieties or has nostalgia taken over? All I know is that I always look forward to Victoria Plum season and this year has been a bitter disappointment in terms of texture and flavour.
