I posted a message back in May I think re growing sweetcorn in Aberdeen. I wasn't sure if it would work and some of you were kind enough to share your thoughts. Well here is the update!
Despite the awful summer we have had the sweetcorn grew like a rocket and I harvested 3 cobs on Friday last.

I entered my first ever veg show on Saturday and put in a cob as an entry from my wee boy. (The sweet corn was his project - personally I can't stand the stuff). He won first prize in the "Any other Veg category"! He was so excited and I haven't stopped grinning since. He is only three after all!

Sorry to be a bit of a "proud mummy bore" but I just had to let you all know. Thanks for the encouragement back in May - looks like we will be growing sweetcorn every year from now on!

Hi Haggis,
I am very pleased for you and your wee boy.
I started at the age of five helping my grandfather and became his shadow. At the age of thirteen he allowed me to have my own allotment in his orchard and I have never looked back. It goes to prove that if you can gather the interest of a youngster then
you will eventually have a fine gardener on your hands. Not in all cases but as long as you allow his interests to be taken into consideration he will enjoy his time with you and not get bored.
This is my 64th season and I am still as intrigued with it all as I was at thirteen.
JB.

Dear Haggis, thats just the sort of story we like to read on the forum, it just goes to show it is worth trying things that you think might not work.

I'm so pleased about the show, and you deserve to be a proud Mum. :)
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

There's no fool like an old fool.
