Second Ice Age

I discovered last night that Tim's comment of "the freezer's a bit iced up" didn't mean what I thought. I sadly assumed the fast freeze box at the top was getting in need of a scrape. Wrong. He said this last Sunday and I didn't look until last night. It appears the door hasn't been shut properly for around 2 weeks   I don't know what the original problem was but last night I had to chisel a fair bit back to jam the door shut overnight.

I've now managed to empty the bottom bit and the ice was all purple. This I assume means the temperature must have dropped quite radically and the meat is thus all a goner. I'm also binning prawns and the few veg that were in there as I have loads more.

However, what about ice cream? There's a lot of Cornettos, Magnums etc in there which seem OK, but I don't want Tim to be poisoned. Does anyone know?

i would have thought that if the magnums had melted and refrozen they would be obviously misshapen, if they look the right shape they are probably ok, and probably the rest of the contents as well, i cant see why the ice should be purple though.. usually the xtra ice comes from warm moist air getting in through the open door and freezing when it hits the frozen interior of the freezer, the build up of ice then seals the door until the next time it gets opened, then it doesnt shut properly again and more moist air enters and more ice builds up, anyway if the meat is properly cooked and looks and tastes ok it should be ok, its the stuff you eat uncooked like the prawns that probably arnt worth the risk if there is any doubt about the shape of the icecreams.

Thanks Richard but I'm binning most things. The meat was squashy on one side and frozen on the other and the blood had managed to get every where, hence the purple/bloody ice. It was disgusting. I had to let most things partially defrost just to get them out of the freezer. Both shelves and their contents were in one solid block and I couldn't move them frozen.

The Magnums were a bit squishy but I've kept them, the Bounty ice creams were just mush, ditto the Cornettos and they've gone in the bin.

Take a look at this

Oh well, the freezer is beautiful and clean now.

Looks like Chantal has found Lord Lucan, Shergar, Elvis and my mother in laws personality in that lot

John, it is, but I don't generally eat them, they're Tim's. He's a chocolate addict; just ask Seedling, she's seen his stash.

What I meant to say.....and made a right mess of...is that if Chantal decided to excavate the icy mound she may have uncovered Lord Lucan, Shergar and Elvis snacking on Tims choccies

I'm going now to lie down in a darkened room
