Heavy winter ??

I notice the oak tree's have an abundant of acorns, is this a sign of a heavy winter ? do we have a weather guru out there. Shallotman

Dear Shallot Man, i think as with most of these old sayings it has more to to with what the growing season has been, rather than what it's going to be.
There again what do i know. :? :)

Hi OH,
How right you are. Abundance of Holly Berries means that we had a good Spring and the same goes for Hawthorn. The old sayings are pure myth and legend.

I remember the dire warnings from last year - the Met office and red-tops blarting on about a severe winter with -14c etc etc.

I doubt in the warmer CO-filled climate of the naughties we'll see a harsh winter again any time soon.

I find it more alarming that I've had my central heating on at some point during every month since last October. I used to turn it off around late April and that was it until the autumn. Not now, not any more. :roll:
