Can potato barrels go outside now or not?

OK, having lost all our spud harvest to blight, I take it we can't put our 2nd cropper Carlingford in a previously used spud bed. We have 2 potato barrels which, although we never got a great harvest out of them, we will have to use if I want my new potatoes for Xmas. Now that the weather has picked up, can they be left to get going outside, or must they go straight into the greenhouse? Or is that asking for trouble on behalf of our ripening tomato crop? All advice gratefully received
