hi everyone,hows it goin with you all?Hows married life treating you Chantal?
any way ,back to the subject.Has anyone entered any flower-veg comps?
we had our allotment comp yesterday,a first in five years,and considering everyone said they had nothing to put in,due to the weather,we had a really good turn out.
Any way heres the bit were i blow my own trumpet
I got a 1ST with my raspberry jam and a 3RD with my strawberry

.and i beat the tart LIZ against her goosberry and orange jam,she got second ha! ha! i was sooo made up because she is an excellent cook and makes some really yummy dishes compaired to my scouse,chips and egg e.t.c
my children got a first and second each for their flowers,cucumber,sun flowers and onions thanks to john boy and his pelleted seeds

Liz's boy Andrew got a first in the kids comp with his mixed fruit jam,it was luvly
The children were more made up with the 80p prise money they got and couldnt wait to get to the shop to spend it on sweets.

also got a first for me onions,3rd for me vase of flowers

,3rd for the rhubarb and got nowhere with me gladies or sweetpeas,but a good day was had by all and i came away v.happy

Well done ! We'll have to pay now when we come round to your house for afternoon tea with scones and raspberry jam !!
No, haven't entered any competitions. I think our local allotment society has given up running them and whilst I'm sometimes lucky enough to grow some reasonable looking veggie sometimes, they would all be perverse enough to get riddled with slugs or some other infection just as Show Time was approaching. I did go to a Flower & Veg show a couple of weeks ago. Despite the rotten weather we've had, the quality of some of the vegetables was awesome and I think their owners had spent as much time preparing them for the show as they had done growing them.

Wish we had some competitions here, but it would be just one more thing I don't have time for.

We only have one show round our way and I'm not allowed to enter as I'm a judge ( :shock:

). A shame really as I have some lovely straight runner beans and the leeks are great this year.

Oh well, I've nominated Seedling as a judge next year so I'll maybe give it a go. :wink:

We just had our local show this weekend, the kids got a 1st and 3x 2nds. I entered 4 things and got 2 2nds. The prize money is quite generous i think £8, £4 and £2 and thats in the kids section too, so my son is delighted he has walked away with £16 and £4 to a 4 year old is an exciting prospect too. The leek and onion growers were complaining mind. Biggest onion was 9lb 2oz, how do they do it! Afterwards they have an auction and I got the winning standard fushia for £2. If I look after it i can enter it myself next year :lol:

well mandyloo i have to agree with o.h,that made me smile too.its gr8t that the kids are getting involved,and i must say,the prize money was very good,me thinks i will be having a wourd with our commity :wink:
